How Does it Work?

The action all starts with the creation of a Lobby. It's similar to the start of a fantasy football league: one person creates the league and then sends out invitations until the league is filled and ready for action. Here at the Capture Pool, you can become the "Captain of a Bracket" by creating a Lobby, inviting your friends, and when you have the right number of accepted invitiations you can offically create the Bracket!

Each bracket will have eight participants. Each participant will randomly be assigned eight teams (two from each of the four regions – you will have a chance to own each of the two teams in the Elite Eight in any given region). Your success in the pool will be determined by your teams' ability to cover the point spread, making the playing field completely even! This is what makes the Capture Pool so unique and exciting!

Game Play Details: For example, if #1 seed is favored by 30 pts over a lowly #16 seed, the person who has the #1 seed would only move on to the second round if they win by more than 30 points (thus covering the spread). If the #16 seed covers the spread (and the #1 seed still wins), that person who was assigned the #16 seed will "capture" the #1 seed and move on to the next round. Remember, the favorite would need to fully cover the spread in order for the person who has them to move on with them. In the case above, if the #1 seed wins by 30 points on the dot, the person with the lowly #16 seed would steal (A.K.A. capture them) and move on.

How Do the Payouts Work?

Payouts will be earned for each game in each round. Here's the round-by-round breakdown:

Winnings per Victory/Round 50 Point Entry Fee 100 Point Entry Fee 200 Point Entry Fee
Round 2 (32 winners) 3 6 12
Round 3 (16 winners) 6 12 24
Sweet 16 (8 winners) 10 20 40
Elite Eight (4 winners) 15 30 60
Final Four (2 winners) 21 42 84
Championship (1 winner) 26 52 104

More payouts, more interest in every game. Keep in mind that the only way to lose your full entry fee is if all eight of your teams don’t cover in the first round. Yes, it has happened but is very rare.

Spread Scenarios

  • Scenario 1: If the favored team wins the game and covers the point spread, the participant who has the favored team keeps that team advances in the tournament.
  • Scenario 2: If the favored team wins the game but does not cover the point spread, the participant who had the losing team captures the favored team and advances in the tournament.
  • Scenario 3: If the favored team does not win the game (the underdog wins), the participant who has the winning team (the underdog) keeps that team and advances in the tournament.
  • Scenario 4: If there is no favored team the participant who owns the winning team will advance in the tournament.
